December 31, 2001 is the first New Year’s Eve after the September 11th Terrorist Attacks. It was a tense start of the New Year, as their were fears of another terrorist attack, particularly in Times Square New York.
Also, December 31, 2001 is the furthest point of coverage for Yo90s. Though opinions vary on when the 90s era ended, this is the furthest in scope that our coverage goes. Our start point is January 1, 1989.

Tense New Year’s. Everyone on edge after 9/11 and the early stages of the Afghan War. We were all trying to get back to normalcy, but it wasn’t there anymore.
