The NWO is a professional wrestling faction. They debuted in 1996 at an event called Bash at the Beach, a World Championship Wrestling Pay-Per-View. NWO stands for “New World Order”.
The founding members were Scott Hall, Kevin Nash and Hollywood Hulk Hogan. Over the years, the Faction expanded into dozens of members including basketball player Dennis Rodman.

In this case, I believe the faction’s acronyms was a play off on the rap group NWA.
