On April 1st, 1996, Taco Bell claimed to have purchased the Philadelphia Liberty Bell, renaming it to Taco Liberty Bell. It was an April Fool’s joke that earned the company millions of dollars worth in free publicity.

I was a believer! Makes perfect sense too! When I see the Liberty Bell, I have the urge for two crunchy beef tacos, a large mountain dew and a bag of cinnamon twists.

I got fooled by it! My local news covered it. The hoax lasted for a few hours until they admitted to it, but Taco Bell got tons of people with this! It was so big that a White House spokesperson commented on it.
